The Sioux City Police Department arrested 39-year-old suspect Mark Gray after police were called to three reports of burglaries which took place in the space of a few hours. On August 4 at 1:42 a.m. local time, police were called to a report of a burglary at the Counseling & Support Services building after a suspect broke a window to gain entry inside. Police said it was not known at the time of the investigation if anything was missing from the center on 421 Nebraska Street....

Officers arriving on the scene at 1435 N.15th Street in Council Bluffs, Iowa, shortly after 4:30 a.m. on Monday found a woman they identified as Christine Weilage out front of a building with “severe burns” on her body, according to the Council Bluffs Police Department. Trump announced Wednesday he was dispatching Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to New York with orders to notify the U.N. of Washington’s decision to officially trigger a “snapback” of economic restrictions lifted from Iran in the wake of a 2015 nuclear deal the U.S. abandoned more than two years ago. While the administration is adamant in its ability to do so, other countries including allies have mostly rejected this line of reasoning and Iran has especially challenged the legality of the move....

On Wednesday, Bagheri Kani met with the European Union’s External Action Service Deputy Head, Enrique Mora, in Brussels where they discussed resuming nuclear talks, CNN reported, following a suspension after six rounds of discussion in June. Prior to this meeting, Iran held talks in Vienna with Germany, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, and indirectly, the United States. The negotiations could see the revival of the Iran Nuclear Deal, known formally as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) which was terminated during Donald Trump’s presidency....

The U.S. Department of Treasury announced Monday that its Office of Foreign Assets Control was designating the Iranian Ministry of Petroleum, the National Iranian Oil Company and the National Iranian Tanker Company on counterterrorism grounds due to their financial support of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Quds Force (IRGC-QF), an elite military unit branded a terrorist organization last year by the State Department. Reacting to the news, Iranian mission to the United Nations spokesperson Alireza Miryousefi considered the move an attack on the Iranian people themselves, who are currently facing an economic crisis and a persistent, particularly deadly COVID-19 outbreak....

Hossein Salami, the IRGC commander-in-chief, said Thursday he had ordered his forces in the Gulf to destroy any vessel or combat unit that threatened the safety of Iranian ships, according to the Iranian Young Journalists Club news agency. Salami specifically referred to “any American terrorist force” posing a threat. The COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic has overshadowed continued tensions between the U.S. and Iran in recent months, but the animosity between Washington and Tehran has resurfaced in recent days....

Surprisingly, this is through no fault of Iran, which was willing.
