Though both sides are in favor of reviving the JCPOA, Iran is demanding that the U.S. lift crippling sanctions before it returns to full compliance. But the Biden administration has said the JCPOA can only come back into force if Iran scales back its nuclear activity in line with the original deal....

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif revealed on Tuesday further details about the ongoing investigation into yet unexplained blasts Friday that targeted the Sabiti vessel as it transited the Red Sea. Conflicting reports have emerged about the incident, which follows previous attacks similarly shrouded in mystery on tankers of various flags and nationalities in the Gulf of Oman. “The attack on Iran was a sophisticated, state-sponsored action,” Zarif told the country’s official parliamentary news agency....

In an article carried by the semi-official Mehr News Agency, Iranian Supreme National Security Council Secretary Rear Admiral Ali Shamkhani pointed out three instances in which “senior U.S. officials in the past two months reveal some truths which the country’s governing body previously lacked the courage to accept and express.” His remarks came as U.S. troops withdrew from northern Syria, ceding the city of Manbij to Russian forces, which has joined Iran in backing Syrian President Bashar al-Assad....

In October, the UN Human Rights Office voiced concern about Iran’s treatment of detained protesters and said that authorities were refusing to release some of the bodies of those killed. Iran’s authorities have often used the bodies of protesters as bargaining chips to silence the families of victims, the BBC reported. BBC Persian reported that Kian Pirfalak, who has been described as being either 9 or 10, and 14-year-old Sepehr Maghsoudi, were shot dead by security personnel who fired live rounds in Izeh, on Wednesday....

An unnamed official from Iran’s National Security Council was quoted acknowledging the cyberattack on state television. Journalists from AP also saw lines of cars form at gas stations in Tehran, Iran’s capital, where pumps were shut off and the stations closed. “I have been waiting a couple of hours for the gas stations to reopen so that I can fill up,” said a motorcyclist who gave his name only as Farzin....
