Warnock is an ordained minister and for over 16 years has served as the senior pastor at the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta—the former pulpit of civil-rights leader Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The Georgia Senate candidate has highlighted his education and his dedication to his church on his reelection campaign website.

He is also the youngest pastor selected to serve in that leadership role at his historic church, which was founded in 1886, according to his campaign website.

Where Did Raphael Warnock Attend Seminary?

Warnock’s church has praised him for his dedication to education and his years of study in the bible’s teachings. He attended Seminary, a school that teaches individuals the religious knowledge needed to be a pastor, at the Union Theological Seminary in New York City.

He received a Master of Divinity degree from the school after graduating from Morehouse College cum laude in 1991 and receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology.

“Dr. Warnock was blessed to study and serve within the pastoral ranks of leading congregations also known for their deep spiritual roots and strong public witness,” his church said about his studies.

“Under Dr. Warnock’s leadership, the church continues its legacy of social activism with both spiritual and numerical growth.”

Does Raphael Warnock Have a Doctorate?

Warnock does hold a doctorate and was awarded a Ph.D. in the field of theology.

“Seeing his pastoral work as tied to the ministry of scholarship and the life of the mind, Dr. Warnock continued his graduate studies at Union, receiving a Master of Philosophy degree and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in the field of systematic theology,” Ebenezer Baptist Church says on its page about Warnock.

This minister also holds honorary degrees from The Morehouse School of Medicine, Fisk University, and the University of the Virgin Islands, according to the church. Additionally, Warnock “is an Ascend Fellow at the Aspen Institute, a Senior Fellow at Auburn Theological Seminary and a graduate of the Summer Leadership Institute of Harvard University and Leadership Atlanta.”

The Senate Race

A poll conducted on Tuesday by the Trafalgar Group showed that Warnock’s opponent, Republican Herschel Walker is currently leading by two points.

Walker, the former football player who was endorsed by former President Donald Trump, leads at 49 percent support compared to 47 percent, according to the poll, which surveyed 1,076 respondents.

This is one of the few polls in the past few months to give Walker any sort of edge. FiveThirtyEight, a database that collects polling results, reported that most have given Warnock varying degrees of a lead, with a few having the candidates in a dead heat.
