Watt’s appearance marks the three-time defensive player of the year’s first time on the sketch comedy series, and from the looks of the latest promo video, he’s up for the challenge. The question, however, is if longtime cast member Aidy Bryant ready to roll with the big boys.
In the clip, Bryant announces that it’s officially Big Boy Week at Rockefeller Center’s Studio 8H, where SNL is broadcast. Watt responds by asking Bryant if she was scared, to which she nervously replies, “No, no! I can hang. Trucks, beer, country music. Hoorah!”
“That’s not what it’s about,” Watt informed her.
Watt follows a long list of athletes who have hosted SNL over the years including fellow football players Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Deion Sanders, O.J. Simpson, Joe Montana and Walter Payton. Even John Madden, the beloved former NFL coach and sportscaster hosted SNL in 1982.
Watt’s SNL appearance also comes ahead of Super Bowl LIV, in which the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers will face off at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, on Sunday. While fans can never know what to expect on SNL, we’d be surprised if there weren’t a few game-day inspired sketches in store for them on Saturday.
