The upcoming appearance will mark Mulaney’s third time hosting the show since his 2012 departure. Mulaney worked on SNL’s writing team for six seasons after auditioning in 2008. Over the years he became one of the show’s most celebrated writers, occasionally appearing in sketches and skits in addition to his post on the show’s “Weekend Update” segment. He even won an Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics Emmy award in 2011 for a musical skit he composed with fellow SNL alums Seth Meyers and Katreese Barnes and guest Justin Timberlake.

His returns to SNL as host are always quite the delight, as fans have come to love his hilarious opening monologues and sketches alongside the new breed of SNL cast members. (How could anyone ever forget “Diner Lobster”?)

While one can never know what to expect when Mulaney makes his voyage back to SNL, here’s to hoping viewers at least get to see him in some Democratic debate satire—especially considering the fact that Democratic candidate Pete Buttigieg has already endorsed Mulaney to star as him in a biopic. Mulaney proudly accepted the role of Mayor Pete in a tweet in late February.

It wouldn’t be surprising if we see Mulaney get his first shot at playing the politician on SNL on Saturday.
