James Paxton Injury Update Yankees Lefty Will Undergo Mri On Knee After Leaving Start

Starting pitcher James Paxton left New York’s matchup with the Twins on Friday with a 2-1 lead at Yankee Stadium.

It was unclear initially why he left, but the Yankees announced later he departed with knee soreness.

He will undergo an MRI on Saturday.

Paxton came into Friday’s game with a 3-2 record and a 3.38 ERA with 51 strikeouts in 34 2/3 innings.

New York acquired Paxton in an offseason trade with the Mariners for a package centered around prized prospect Justus Sheffield.

Paxton joins Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Aaron Hicks, Miguel Andujar, Clint Frazier and Dellin Betances as Yankee players currently on the shelf with injuries.

New York is in second place in the AL East with a 17-13 record.
