The Mad Men actress posed playfully in ripped denim shorts and an open white shirt that she wore over a bikini as she held up a beer and gave the peace sign with her other hand.

Jones posted the photo to Instagram and captioned it simply with an American flag.

The actress appeared to be on decking by a lake with her sisters when the photo was taken.

She wore a mismatched bikini under her outfit, completing the look with a baseball cap and dark sunglasses.

Jones held a can of Budweiser Zero as she smiled towards the camera.

One Twitter user found it unusual someone would be celebrating the national day of tragedy.

“January Jones appears to be celebrating 9/11 like it’s the 4th of July,” wrote Lee Jameson above a screenshot of Jones’ Instagram post.

Others commented that it seemed an inevitability that the 9/11 anniversary would become a day of celebration.

“We’ve been joking for years that 9/11 would eventually become a beer and hotdogs holiday and it might actually be happening lmao,” commented one Twitter user.

A second added: “I love Americans! Their irreverence is one of the major contributions to world culture. How long before it’s made a holiday and we’re all out bbq’ing?”

And a third wrote: “She is just ahead of the curve. In 10/20 years everyone will be doing the same.”

The 44-year-old Jones is no stranger to going viral on social media, having once joked about taking a bath in beer and linking it to Cleopatra bathing in sperm.

A fan tweeted stills from the story from September 29, 2020 with the caption: “January is self care posting again and just poured beer in her bath because she read that Cleopatra used to bathe in sperm (?) and it ‘can’t be that different depending on who you’ve dated.’”

They added: “This is by far one of the greatest videos she’s ever posted but the yeast implications are terrifying me.”

Jones said she wanted to put on “a dress and jewelry and my eye makeup,” during the COVID-19 quarantine because “sparkly things cheer [her] up.” She then took her followers through her “four-step process” to lifting her mood—relaxing, skin care, a bubblebath and adding beer to said bath.

“I put a lot of questionable things in it,” Jones said of her bath. “And I’m gonna put one more questionable thing in it, which is my step four,” before revealing that the final step was to enjoy a drink of your choice.

“I’m doing that because I feel like it’s going to be hydrating for my body, and I recently read about what Cleopatra would put in her baths,” she said pouring beer in the tub. “I just feel like, depending on who you’ve dated, it can’t be that much different, right?”

During a ceremony to commemorate the 21st anniversary of the 2001 attacks, U.S. President Joe Biden touted the recent killing of Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri.

Zawahiri had been the leader of Al-Qaeda since the 2011 killing of Osama bin Laden, and helped plan the 9/11 attacks. On August 1, Biden announced that the terrorist leader had been killed in a drone strike in Afghanistan the day before.

“Through all that has changed over the last 21 years, the enduring resolve of the American people to defend ourselves against those who seek us harm and deliver justice those responsible for the attacks against our people has never once faltered,” the president said in a speech.

Newsweek has reached out to Jones’ representatives for comment.
