Allen, acquired in September in a trade with the Bears, filled a huge hole in the Panthers’ pass rush during Charles Johnson’s injured reserve stint. But he became something of a luxury since Johnson’s Thanksgiving return, playing sparingly.
He did not register a tackle in Sunday’s win.
If anything, Allen’s absence comes as more of a personal blow for the 12-year vet who is one win away from playing in his first Super Bowl. Depending on the result of his X-rays, the Observer reported it’s possible Allen could return in time for the Feb. 7 game should the Panthers make it that far.
