The Blue Jays played the Tigers on Sunday and Berrios was on the mound. That meant he was tasked with shutting down Javy Baez, his brother-in-law.
Talk about family business.
Baez won the family bragging rights this time around, homering off of Toronto’s flamethrower in the top of the fourth inning.

That’ll get you brownie points at the next family dinner.
Baez reached base with a walk, as well, making for a good day at the plate for the Tigers slugger…at Berrios’ expense.
Berrios made sure to give his brother-in-law some credit in the postgame interview, telling reporters that he sent Baez a complimentary text after the game.
Berrios and Baez haven’t shared the field too often. They did make their respective All-Star rosters during the 2018 and 2019 seasons. However, they played in different leagues — Berrios was starring with the Twins, while Baez was a core member of the Cubs.
With Baez moving into the AL Central for the foreseeable future, more matchups seem likely. It’ll definitely be one to watch going forward — both players figure to be extremely important pieces to their club’s future.
And maybe, just maybe, Berrios can get a little revenge.
