Werth will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his AC joint at the Mayo Clinic on Friday, FoxSports.com’s Ken Rosenthal reported.

The 35-year-old outfielder has been plagued with an aching right shoulder for months, causing him to miss a week of practice and games in August and rely on cortisone shots.

Werth’s 2014 season was solid, despite his shoulder problems. He hit .292/.394/.455 with 16 home runs and 82 RBIs.

The Nationals’ first full-squad spring training workout is scheduled for Feb. 26 and the team will open its season April 6 against the Mets.
