Former NBA head coach Jeff Van Gundy sees it differently.

Speaking at the Sloan Sports Analytics Conference on Friday, Van Gundy was adamant that the keys to winning at that level are not about the press but about talent. Or lack thereof.

“The two keys in fourth-grade girls’ basketball are this,” said Van Gundy, who coached at that level this year. “Can you make a layup, and do all of your players show up? Because if all 10 show up, you have to play them equally, but if you can convince two that they’re really sick, your two best players play three quarters. That’s how you win at fourth-grade girls’ basketball.”

If the analytics argument is going to be like this I’m definitely lifting my moratorium on taking it seriously in any way.
