The New York Post had reported, citing anonymous sources, that the couple split. A day later, however, the two told TMZ that the report was untrue and that they were just “working through some things.”

Lopez and Rodriguez have been together for nearly three years, with the singer and former MLB star getting engaged in March 2019.

Here’s a look back at their relationship timeline.

1998: The dream date

The then-Seattle Mariners star predicted his relationship with Lopez in an interview from 1998. “What would a dream date with Alex Rodriguez be?” Rodriguez was asked. “Jennifer Lopez,” he said. “Hopefully, you can find me a date with her.”

Rodriguez shared an autographed picture he received (and kept for nearly 20 years) from Lopez in 1999.

2005: The meeting

The pair first officially met at a Yankees game when Lopez was still married to Marc Anthony, her now ex-husband and the father to her two children.

Lopez, who was wearing a Mets jersey, said she and Rodriguez had an instant connection.

“We shook hands, and it was this weird electricity for, like, three seconds,” Lopez told Sports Illustrated. “Three to five seconds of looking at somebody right in their eyes, and getting stuck.”

February 2017: Beverly Hills Hotel

Twelve years later, Lopez spotted Rodriguez at the Beverly Hills Hotel as A-Rod was looking for his car. She tapped him on the shoulder to get his attention. A few nights later they went on their first date.

Rodriguez shared his memory of the moment on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”

Lopez also shared her side of the story with DeGeneres.

April 2017: Instagram official

Lopez shared a picture with Rodriguez while watching a Yankees game. Yes, it was just a shot of their shoes, but this marked the first time he appeared on her account.

March 2019: Cheating allegations

A day after announcing their engagement, former Yankees player Jose Canseco accused Rodriguez of cheating on Lopez with his ex-wife, Jessica Canseco.

She denied the claims.

Lopez also addressed the cheating allegations.

“I mean, it doesn’t matter. I know what the truth is. I know who [Alex] is. He knows who I am. We’re just happy,” Lopez said. “We’re not gonna let other people come out and tell us what our relationship is. I know what our relationship is.”

2020: Super Bowl halftime show

2020 was to be a big year for the couple.

Lopez performed the Super Bowl halftime show and the couple planned to tie the knot later in the year. She revealed on her YouTube channel that she would like a 2020 ceremony. That never happened, however, as the wedding was postponed.

Rodriguez said that the two had planned a destination wedding with “a long flight” during an appearance on “Strahan Sara and Keke.”

The wedding was actually postponed twice, Lopez revealed in December 2020.

March 2021: Broken up? Not so fast

Lopez and Rodriguez disputed news reports that they had broken up. “All reports are inaccurate,” they told TMZ.
