But about a half an hour after the deadline passed, the Jets announced the extension.
It’s a five-year extension that will pay the defensive lineman $17 million per year, according to multiple reports. The money is well-deserved for the 26-year-old, who has been with the Jets since they selected him in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft.
Talks reportedly stale-mated a few weeks ago but heated up right before the deadline. The two sides must have put ink to paper right before the clock hit 4 p.m. ET.
