Today, it’s getting harder and harder for Americans to simply make an adequate wage, even with two incomes. However, rather than working on policies and legislation that will address this crisis, our elected leaders are fighting for those who benefit from the current system. Just this week, Senator Ted Cruz and a group of fellow Republicans in the Senate sent a letter to Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin demanding that he index capital gains to inflation, which would reduce taxes paid on investments....

But, in a rhetorical sense, many Black and brown people still cannot breathe at all, as the nation struggles to reckon with the systemic racism that pervades policing and affects their lives. Immediately before and after the verdict came down, horrifying instances of police violence continue to be exposed. In Elizabeth City, North Carolina, a private medical review found that Pasquotank County Sheriff’s deputies shot Andrew Brown as he was fleeing, with a fatal shot to the back his head....

The idea seems simple, but lately it’s been spinning wildly out of control. Last year a bunch of contemporary country singers strutted their soft-rocking stuff on “Common Thread: The Songs of the Eagles,” and the album has sold an amazing 3 million copies. This fall there are tributes to satisfy every craving: punk hipsters do the Carpenters, Irish warblers do Van Morrison, country stompers do Lynyrd Skynyrd, alternative eggheads do Richard Thompson, headbangers do Black Sabbath....

To much of the world, Argentina seemed bent on committing collective suicide the week before Christmas. Two consecutive years of rising unemployment and austerity measures, meant to combat a $132 billion foreign debt, finally boiled over into the country’s worst disturbances in 12 years. But as Argentina stood on the verge of the largest default in recorded history, something historic happened in the rest of South America. Nothing. Italian artist Salvatore Garau recently auctioned an invisible sculpture for 15,000 euros ($18,300). According to as.com, the sculpture’s initial price was set between 6,000 and 9,000 euros; however, the price was raised after several bids were placed. Titled ‘Io Sono’ (Italian for “I am”), the 67-year-old artist’s sculpture is “immaterial,” meaning that the sculpture does not actually exist. Though he’s received much critique for the sale, Garau argues that his work of art isn’t “nothing,” but is instead a “vacuum....

The Azzurri, who were missing marquee fly-half Paolo Garbisi, made up for some wayward kicking off the tee with superb defence throughout and continued their progression up rugby’s world-class ladder in 2022. The hosts raced out of the blocks in a superb first half, the two teams trading points off the tee before Australia scrum-half Jake Gordon was sin-binned for a late tackle.
